Eduquem+B

Let’s boost sustainability education in Barcelona!

We present the results of a pioneering diagnosis of the sustainability competencies of Barcelona students and offer pedagogical resources to work on them in the classroom.

What is Eduquem+B

Eduquem+B is a Barcelona+B project with the academic support of EADA Business School. It promotes a sustainability education that is more connected to today’s social, environmental, and economic challenges.  It was created with the aim of integrating sustainability competencies into the educational field, following the European GreenComp framework.

City diagnosis

Eduquem+B seeks to answer a key question: Are we preparing our youth well enough to face today’s sustainability challenges?

More than 2,000 students and over twenty educational centers in Barcelona have participated in this pioneering diagnosis, which analyzes how students think, know, and act in the face of the environmental, social, and economic challenges of the future.

Sustainability competencies

The study promoted by Eduquem+B analyzes the sustainability competencies of Barcelona’s youth through the Be Ready For Now test. This questionnaire consists of 48 questions based on the GreenComp sustainability competence framework of the European Commission and can be used in the classroom as pedagogical material to generate conversation about:

This category evaluates the ability to reflect on our values and perceptions regarding sustainability, recognizing our connection with nature. It focuses on equity, justice, and the promotion of nature, and analyzes how social norms influence social, political, and ethical decisions.

This section evaluates your ability to apply critical and systems thinking to address sustainability challenges, considering the interconnection between environmental, social, and economic issues, and recognizing the relationship between the planet, people, and the economic system.

This section evaluates your ability to imagine alternative futures and actions toward sustainability, highlighting adaptability in uncertainty, creativity, and a transdisciplinary approach to planning. It values thinking about possibilities and embracing an open and collective future in uncertain contexts.

This category evaluates commitment to sustainability through continuous individual and collective actions. It underlines the importance of demanding action from politicians and stakeholders, understanding that a sustainable future requires cultural and social transformations and institutional reforms to prevent and mitigate negative impacts.

Pedagogical resources for teachers

We offer a self-diagnosis test (Be Ready for Now) and a pedagogical guide to work on sustainability in the classroom, based on the European GreenComp framework.

These resources are designed for teachers, researchers, and heads of educational centers who teach baccalaureate, vocational training, university degrees, or other training programs for young people aged 16 and over.

The content can be applied in tutorials, Vocational Training (VT), and in subjects such as Economics, Business and Business Models, Citizenship and Law, Sustainable Environment, or Peace and Justice, among others.

The resources help to integrate sustainability into the curriculum, foster critical thinking, and connect global challenges with the local reality of Barcelona.

Frequently Asked Questions

We have already completed the research phase. You can continue using our pedagogical resources if you are a teacher, researcher, or head of an educational center in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area and work with baccalaureate, vocational training, university degrees, or other types of vocational training.

Centers that access the resources will receive a series of materials that will facilitate the application of the test with your students. We provide a pedagogical guide to lead the use of the test in class, key messages to motivate students, and, of course, access to the Be Ready for Now test. Everything is ready to make the experience enriching and simple!

Being a partner center involves a commitment to disseminating the Be Ready for Now test among your students aged 16 to 24 during the 2024-2025 academic year. In return, we will give visibility to your logo on our channels and, if we obtain a representative sample, we will provide you with a personalized report with the results. Additionally, you will join a network of institutions that, like you, are working for a more sustainable future in our city. It’s an opportunity to be part of the change!

Of course! The more teachers who use it, the better the impact will be. You don’t need to wait for your center to formally join—go ahead!

There is no need to limit participation. Although the test is designed for young people aged 16 to 24, if you think it could be useful for students of other ages, go for it! Just keep in mind that it may be more complex for younger students.

Yes, if your center becomes an Eduquem+B partner during the 2024-2025 academic year and if a representative sample of students aged 16 to 24 is achieved. In this case, we will provide you with a personalized report. This will include the aggregated results of your students and a comparison with city averages.

Be Ready For Now is a free and easy-to-use online self-assessment test, available in three languages: Catalan, Spanish, and English. It consists of 48 questions and takes between 20 and 25 minutes. The test is based on GreenComp, the European sustainability competence framework, which defines a set of competencies to help students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to foster ways of thinking, planning, and acting with empathy, responsibility, and care for our planet and society.

It’s very simple. Students access a link, choose their preferred language (Catalan, Spanish, or English), and complete a short demographic section. Then, they answer the 48 questions of the questionnaire. Upon completion, they immediately receive a personalized report that they can download. This report details their overall score and their performance in each of the four competence areas defined by the European Commission through GreenComp.

We want young people aged 16 to 24 in the Barcelona Metropolitan Area to develop key competencies to lead the transition toward a more just, inclusive, and regenerative economy. To achieve this, we partner with educational centers committed to this purpose. Together we can make a difference!

The Be Ready for Now test will allow us to obtain data on the level of sustainability competencies of Barcelona’s youth for the 2024-2025 academic year. The anonymized results will be analyzed according to age, field of study, neighborhoods, etc. This data will be used to create a public diagnosis useful for designing better policies and actions to sensitize and activate the city’s youth on sustainability issues. The more people participate, the more valuable the information will be and the more impact it will have!

Not at all! This is just the beginning. We are building a network of institutions committed to making sustainability a priority. The results of the diagnosis will be the first step to continue moving forward together. This is just the start of a path full of possibilities to continue driving sustainability together.
